Crick tower
Crick
St Margaret of Antioch, Crick, Northamptonshire
An eight-bell teaching tower
Crick’s present full-circle ring has eight bells. Three current ringing bells pre-date the English Civil War, while later restoration and augmentation created an active modern ringing and teaching tower.
1601-1616
Three early bells
The present seventh was cast by Edward Newcombe in 1601. Hugh II Watts cast the present tenor in 1614 and the present fifth in 1616.
1720
The clock bell
Thomas Russell’s 1720 bell survives separately as the clock bell.
1995-98
Restored and augmented
Restoration activity was underway by 1995. Three Whitechapel bells date from 1996; Dove records augmentation from six to eight in 1997 with two further Whitechapel trebles. Peterborough Guild material describes the broader project as 1996-98.
